A place to visit and have a good time near the Grelo Hostel is the Botanical Park of Montealegre
Most people don’t know it, but Ourense is the most northern area of the Peninsula to have a Mediterranean climate. This is due to the peculiar orography of Galicia, thanks to which we have a diversity of flora.
The council of Ourense created a space for the leisure and the experimentation of the nature, in Montealegre, an urban mount very known in the city since it is in the habit of going there to celebrate the Magostos in autumn.
It is an area of more than 15 h. One of the city’s great lungs and a place of recreation for the people of Ourense.
As a botanical park it has more than 240 species of flowers and 132 of fauna. It also has an open-air auditorium and a large viewpoint from which you can see the city with some of its best views.

Super important, it has opening hours:
Monday: closed.
November and February from 10.00 to 18:00
March, April and October from 10.00 to 20:00
From May to September from 10.00 to 21:00

How to get from El Grelo to the Botanical Park of Montealegre
From the Grelo Hostel on the left, you go up all the Rúa Peña Trevinca. Until you climb to the top of the hill, looking at the old convent of San Francisco on our right. At the height of the viewpoint, we change to the opposite sidewalk. When you start going down the Rúa Emilia Pardo Bazán, there are some stairs on the right, you go up them. Continue straight ahead, skirting the Municipal Auditorium and enter Rúa da Canle and go straight on without turning off. Its name changes to Rúa Fonte dos Caños and continue climbing until you find the Montealegre parking lot on your right. And the entrance to it. Enjoy it!
